Wuxi offers a hand to Gansu

Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has sent rescuers and emergency rescue equipment to assist the rescue work in Jishishan county, Haidong city in Northwest China's Gansu province, which was hit by a 6.2-magnitude earthquake at 11:59 pm on Dec 18 (Beijing Time).

The first batch of emergency rescue equipment from the city includes air cushions, life detection instruments, and crack detectors.

Wuxi has also allocated 3 million yuan ($423,084) for disaster rescue and transported relief materials worth 3 million yuan to Haidong.

When the earthquake occurred, there were 87 Wuxi natives that were offering medical, educational, and agricultural assistance in the city and after the disaster Wuxi medical workers have rescued and helped transfer more than 200 patients.

Zhu Bingye, a doctor from Wuxi, is one of the medical workers offering a hand in Jishishan. "The power and water started going out in the hospital I work for on the night of Dec 18 and we had to transfer critically ill patients to other safe places while assessing the injuries of people wounded in the earthquake."

According to Zhu, by 9 am on Dec 19, power and water had been restored in the hospital but the medical resources and cold protection supplies are still in shortage.
