Huzhou in Tan Jiancheng’s paintings: Bilang Lake

Captured from a distant perspective, this painting portrays a serene landscape. In the foreground, there are embankments, drooping willows, a small bridge and a pavilion on the mountain. In the middle ground, there’s the Fuyu Pagoda on a sandbar in the lake and a few boats. The background consists of undulating mountains, creating a sense of vast tranquility.

Through the artistry of painter Tan Jiancheng, one can almost imagine being in Huzhou, facing the sparkling waves of Bilang Lake, gazing into the distance at the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) brick Fuyu pagoda, immersing one’s self in one of the famous Wuxing Eight Scenic Spots beloved by literati throughout history.
