Wuxi Symphony Orchestra to debut soon

The Wuxi Symphony Orchestra in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, is set to give its debut performance on Jan 1, 2024 to welcome the new year, according to a press conference on Dec 12.

The orchestra is expected to promote both Chinese and Jiangnan culture to the world through the performance of classic and modern music, as well as eastern and western tunes.

Directed by artistic director and chief conductor Lin Daye, the New Year concert will feature performances by world-class pianist Denis Matsuev, cellist Wang Jian, sopranos Wu Bixia and Song Qian, and tenor Xue Haoyin.

The concert will kick off with the new piece Wuxi Overture, which features beautiful lyrics and delicate melodies and portrays the city's long history, rich culture, breathtaking scenery, and gallant spirit.

Although the New Year concert has been sold out, the orchestra will soon commence its 2023-24 music season, during which renowned artists from home and abroad will be invited to give performances in different styles.

Launched in June, the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra plans to perform 100 classic symphonies over the next two to three years. It will organize and participate in various concerts and partner artists from China and other countries to offer local residents worthwhile shows in the future.
