Chinese battery maker denies security risks of products

Chinese battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd hit back at the US utility firm Duke Energy's move to disconnect its batteries, saying that accusations about its batteries posing a potential security threat "are false and misleading".

The move came as Duke said earlier this week that it has disconnected CATL's batteries at a US Marine base camp following pressure from lawmakers fearing the so-called national security threats.

"CATL's business and products in the US do not collect, sell or share data, and cannot directly interact with electrical grids or any other critical infrastructure," the company said in a statement.

While denying the accusations, CATL, the world's largest maker of electric vehicle batteries, emphasized that its products have passed rigorous safety and security reviews, including reviews by US authorities and businesses.
