Brisk autumn winds have blown the ancient ginkgo tree in Banjing town, Rugao, East China's Jiangsu province, into golden yellow and it is time to plan an outing to take in the beautiful sight.

If you want to capture the best scenery, late this month to early next month is definitely the most appropriate period.

The 1,500-year-old ginkgo tree in Banjing is the most ancient of its kind in Nantong and the sixth oldest in Jiangsu. It is 30 meters in height with the largest branch measuring 95 centimeters.

According to Ancient Trees and Renowned Trees in Nantong published by China Forestry Publishing House in 2008, the girth of the ginkgo tree is 8.7 meters, the largest in Jiangsu.

"Due to the relatively high temperature this early winter, the best appreciation time is delayed about two weeks compared to previous years," said Miao Shijun, secretary of the local general Party branch.

In recent years, local authorities have increased efforts to protect the ancient tree while provincial authorities have also allocated capital to improve the living environment of ancient trees in the province.
