On Nov 20, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) branch of the World Meteorological Center (WMC) Beijing was inaugurated in Guangzhou's Huangpu district.

This marks another major achievement for China in the global meteorological field, as it becomes the first country in the world to possess a sub-center of the World Meteorological Center (WMC) Beijing.

The establishment of the sub-center is a part of the national strategy to develop the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The center will undertake the responsibility of providing meteorological services to countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road, which will enhance the Greater Bay Area's position in the global meteorological sector.

Located in China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City's Science and Education Innovation Zone, the sub-center is not only a key construction project for Guangzhou, but it also demonstrates China's commitment to creating innovative technology that will enhance meteorological science as a whole.

The sub-center encompasses research, experimentation, and office functions, and aims to improve regional weather forecasting, training, and disaster prevention and reduction capabilities. It will also serve as the first domestic hub for global meteorological business services.

Through this platform, the sub-center will promote international talent training, facilitating collaborative talent development in the Greater Bay Area. It will also provide high-quality meteorological services for the countries involved in the Belt and Road, showcasing China's leadership in this field.
