Zengpiyan National Archaeological Site Park, the first national archaeological site park in the southern suburbs of Guilin, Guangxi, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

The Zengpiyan site showcases the unique culture of Zengpiyan from the early to middle stages of the Neolithic period, dating back approximately 12,000 years. Preliminary excavations began in 1973 and the park was established in 2013.

The excavation of Zengpiyan site has yielded multiple discoveries, including the most primitive pottery and ancient osmanthus seeds ever discovered, providing valuable material for prehistoric archaeological research in Guangxi and the Lingnan region. The Zengpiyan Site Museum, an essential part of the site, has improved its exhibition environment and artifact conservation efforts, enhancing the exhibition experience for visitors.

On Jun 2, the academic symposium commemorating the 50th anniversary of the archaeological excavation at Zengpiyan site took place in Guilin. The Zengpiyan Site Museum will implement a project-driven strategy, aiming to create a 2.0 version of the Zengpiyan National Archaeological Site Park. The museum will also make better use of its educational functions by improving facilities for study tours and practical education with the goal of becoming a renowned educational tourism brand.
