Thursday, about 184 passengers arrived at Sanya Phoenix International Airport, South China’s Hainan province from Busan, South Korea, marking the successful resumption of the Sanya and Busan international regular route.

The route is operated by South Korea's Air Busan and has flights every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

It is the second direct flight route to South Korea and the 7th overseas route resumed in Sanya this year. On July 6, the international passenger route from Seoul, South Korea to Sanya was resumed, and from Aug 10, the flights per week increased from two to four.

The route's resumption is expected to accelerate economically, tourism and other exchanges and cooperation between Hainan and Northeast Asia, lay a solid foundation for Sanya Phoenix International Airport to improve its support capacity and airport service and contribute to the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port as an international aviation hub, according to Sanya Phoenix International Airport Co.

The airport plans to resume a Sanya to Bangkok route on Nov 21, with a Sanya to Moscow route and other international routes planned in the near future.

In September, the Sanya Tourism Board and tourism enterprises within the Sanya Economic Circle visited Seoul to hold a tourism promotion event. They also attended the 11th General Assembly of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia Pacific Cities (TPO) in Jeonju. The purpose of these activities was to showcase the tourism resources in Sanya, a tropical resort city, to the South Korean market and promote tourism exchanges between Sanya and South Korea.
