Wuxi businesses place orders worth $1.29b at sixth CIIE

A business delegation from Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province placed purchase orders of intent worth $1.29 billion at the just-concluded sixth China International Import Expo, according to the local municipal bureau of commerce.

As a city with a strong manufacturing industry, Wuxi has seen a stable increase in the procurement of technological equipment and medical devices for many years at the expo.

For example, this year, AstraZeneca placed orders worth $330 million for medical devices and pharmaceutical and health products and GE Healthcare ordered products of the same kind worth $90 million.

In addition, Helian Food (Wuxi Huishan) Trade Co inked a purchase agreement for fresh food valued at $100 million with PALI in the Netherlands to introduce high-quality pork, beef, and mutton to Wuxi, the largest food order for the Wuxi delegation at the CIIE this year.

CCETC Power Equipment Co has inked purchase agreements with Caterpillar Inc for three consecutive editions of CIIE and this year, it signed a procurement agreement worth $8 million with the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment.

CIIE's exhibitors have turned into Wuxi's partners.

Global supplier of solutions for heat transfer and fluid handling Alfa Laval, for example, plans to start producing spiral-plate heat exchangers in Jiangyin, a county-level city in Wuxi, and also plans to produce the largest-size of such exchangers in the city if the production lives up to expectation, according to Li Bin, president of Energy Department China at Alfa Laval.

The value of intended deals reached at the sixth CIIE rose 6.7 percent year-on-year to exceed $78.41billion, reaching a record high.
