The Yantai Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone is showcasing two groundbreaking innovations at the 6th China International Import Expo's "Achievements in Building Pilot Free Trade Zones in the Past Decade" special exhibition zone.

The expo kicked off at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai on Nov 5 and will run until Nov 10.

These innovations, which include refined management of sewage outfalls into seas, as well as the development of marine-centric industries, showcase the remarkable achievements of Yantai FTZ area in terms of ecological protection, green development, and the advancement of the marine economy.

The Yantai Area has in recent years been prioritizing the protection and restoration of marine ecology. For example, the Yantai Area has completed remediation work on 302 sea outfalls, achieving a 100 percent remediation rate. This model has since been replicated and promoted throughout Yantai, resulting in the remediation of a total of 5,275 outfalls into the sea, thus effectively resolving the long-standing issue of disorganized management of sea outfalls in the city.

Furthermore, the Yantai Area has been taking steps to boost its marine-centric industries. A notable achievement in this regard is the development of "Jinghai No 001", Asia's largest deep-sea smart fishing cage, which was independently designed and manufactured in China.

Yantai will next leverage the strengths of the offshore equipment industry to further integrate sea ranching and offshore enterprises, thereby facilitating the transition from oil-related activities to fishing.
