Construction on the Jinhua-Ningbo high-speed railway in East China's Zhejiang province has reached a significant milestone, with the completion of rail-laying work. The final pair of 500-meter-long steel tracks were laid at the southern end of the Yunlong Station on Nov 2.

The high-speed railway, which started construction in October 2019, connects the cities of Ningbo and Jinhua. With a maximum speed of 200 km/h, the 188-km rail line is expected to greatly reduce travel time between the two cities to just 1 hour and 29 minutes.

The railway is the first in the nation capable of transporting double-layer containers, which will enhance connectivity between Yiwu, a county-level city in Jinhua and Ningbo Zhoushan Port, China's busiest port.

The project is a collaboration between China State Railway Group Co and the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government. Upon completion, the operation and management of the railway will be handled by China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group Co. The railway is expected to begin operations by the end of this year.
