World's largest container ship, MSC China, docks at Xiamen Port

The largest container ship in the world by capacity,MSC China, recently embarked on its maiden voyage to Xiamen Port in China.

Measuring 399.99 meters in length and 61.5 meters in width, the vessel has a deck that is as large as four football fields.MSC Chinacan accommodate 24,116 standard shipping containers.

The China-built vessel will ply the Maritime Silk Road route. Some 5,100 standard containers are expected to be loaded onto and unloaded from the vessel at Xiamen Port.

Xiamen Port, one of the few natural deep-water ports in the world that meets the requirements for all-weather entry and exit of 200,000-ton ships, has received 376 container vessels of this size so far this year, a 44.06 percent year-on-year increase.

MSC Chinawill next make stops at major ports in Asia and Europe, including the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia, Colombo Port in Sri Lanka, Felixstowe Port in the United Kingdom, Bremen Port in Germany, and Rotterdam Port in the Netherlands.
