Hefei city moves to recruit, retain top university talent

Hefei city – capital of East China's Anhui province – recently staged an event to match university graduates with local enterprises and encourage more talented students to work in the city.

On Oct 25-26, around 170 doctoral students from eight universities in Hefei visited key industrial enterprises and new R&D institutions in the city.

They came from the University of Science and Technology of China, the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei University of Technology and Anhui University, among others.

Xu Shun, a doctoral student from Anhui Medical University's clinical surgery program, said the event provided him with a direct understanding of the biomedical industry and broadened his employment prospects.

"Previously, most of us were more inclined to go to hospitals and research institutes. But through this visit, we also see that companies are also great options," he said.

Yan Shengnan, a doctoral student majoring in crop genetics and breeding from Anhui Agricultural University, said that Hefei's development in recent years had been rapid and innovation was now the bedrock of the city's foundations.

"I think Hefei is a place where people can focus on research," Yan said.

"It has implemented various talent policies to support entrepreneurial and innovative talents I'm also looking forwards to staying in Hefei for my future development."
