New center provides fresh impetus to Ordos desert development

The Engebei Ecological Demonstration Zone International Academician Science and Innovation Center was officially inaugurated in Dalad Banner of Ordos city on Oct 20, providing fresh impetus to the region's green and innovative development.

The center was jointly established by the management committee of the Engebei Ecological Demonstration Zone and the working committee of the International Academician Union, which is affiliated to the China International Association for Promotion of Science and Technology.

It aims to leverage the talent and technological advantages of the union to achieve innovative development in such areas as desert management, ecological restoration and soil improvement.

At the initial stage of the center's establishment, the union will assign a team of five academicians and 10 experts to provide talent and technological support for innovative projects in the demonstration zone as well as advisory services for the economic and social development of Dalad Banner.

Along with the inauguration, a fertilizer-free and zero-agricultural residue desert agriculture green development demonstration project was launched the same day.

The project incorporates four exemplary initiatives, including ecological management of the desert to make it greener, fertilizer-free planting, fruit and vegetable planting with zero agricultural residues, and seeds that are cultivated in outer space.
