This 81-centimeter-high square bronze ding (cooker), dating back to the Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC), features a grand and unique design. An arched handle adorns each side of its flat rim. Supported by four cylindrical legs, its square belly is decorated on the outer walls with patterns of taotie (beast mask) and rivets.
Excavated from a bronze ware hoard in Zhengzhou, Henan, in 1982, this massive vessel is of significant historical and academic value for its huge size. It is now in the permanent collection of the Zhengzhou Museum.
