Ordos works to restore abandoned mines

The city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region recently started an abandoned mine ecological restoration demonstration project along the Yellow River.

The project covers six banner districts and 30 towns in Ordos, with a total of 32.15 square kilometers to be treated.

With a total planned investment of around 597 million yuan ($81.78 million), the project aims to rehabilitate 461 abandoned mines.

Upon completion of the project, 78 geological environmental hazards will be eliminated.

Additionally, 137.41 hectares of farmland will be restored with an additional 262.89 hectares for new farming areas, 301.85 hectares of forest will be restored, 671.12 hectares of forest will be created, 1,239.52 hectares of grassland will be restored and 555.11 hectares of new grasslands will be added.

The project is designed to improve the earth's natural ability to regenerate itself, with the ultimate goal of creating a sustainable and balanced ecological structure within the area.
