Government focuses on increasing use of green energy in key regions

The National Development and Reform Commission said on Wednesday that the government will further increase the proportion of green electricity consumption in key regions including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta region and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

This move aims to enhance the utilization of renewable energy in newly added industries, projects and industrial parks, it said.

Local authorities are encouraged to further utilize local renewable resources such as hydropower, wind power, solar power, biomass and geothermal energy at a county or township level, so as to increase the proportion of green electricity used in rural areas, it said.

Furthermore, rooftop photovoltaic installations are also encouraged on industrial facilities, public buildings and the integrated application of photovoltaics in building construction, said the commission.
