A 1.2-billion-yuan ($164.35 million) tuna processing facility in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was put into operation recently, local media reported on Sept 25.

The facility, which is considered to be the largest tuna processing base in China, has been installed with 216 sets of raw material thawing equipment serving eight tuna pre-processing production lines. The daily processing capacity of tuna can reach 200 metric tons, producing approximately 80 tons of finished fish fillets.

The facility was funded by Zhejiang Ocean Family Co, which has gradually established a complete tuna processing industrial chain that covers fishing, cold storage, processing, and delivery.

The facility will be key to building Zhoushan into one of the world's largest tuna processing and transaction hubs, said a local official.
