Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has been making the recovery and expansion of consumption its top priority in order to boost consumer confidence this year.

From January to August, retail sales of consumer goods among enterprises above a designated size in the city totaled 163.6 billion yuan ($22.4 billion), a year-on-year growth of 1.5 percent.

On Sept 8, Xi'an allocated a fund of 20 million yuan to subsidize the purchase of green household appliances.

Consumers who buy energy-efficient green household appliances and emerging smart home appliances from 18 designated companies can receive subsidies based on the price range of the appliances.

Xi'an rolled out several measures to support the production and consumption of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in March this year, providing subsidies for qualified vehicle buyers.

According to data released by the Xi'an bureau of statistics, retail sales of automobiles in the city increased by 13 percent from January to August, with retail sales of NEVs increasing by 73.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the city has increased support for e-commerce enterprises, e-commerce supply chains, livestream shopping activities, and the development of livestream e-commerce.

In the first half of the year, e-commerce platforms issued over 170 million yuan in consumer vouchers in the city, driving the development of e-commerce and revitalizing consumption.

The e-commerce market in Xi'an has been flourishing, with the city having achieved 408.22 billion yuan in total e-commerce transactions from January to July.
