The East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC) held a job fair at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on Sept 22, issuing the 2023 OVC employment white paper for college graduates.

Nearly 200 local enterprises based in the valley provided 10,000 positions, and HGTECH and two other key companies assigned representatives to introduce themselves at the university, attracting over 4,200 graduating students.

In addition to the job fair, the valley has also collaborated with professional third-party human resource institutions to analyze OVC's economic situation and employment among locals , based on which the white paper was written.

The document shows that the average salary for graduates in the valley stands at 7,919 yuan ($1,103.12) per month, which is close to that of first-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. Local employees who graduated in 2020 reported 10,293 yuan in monthly pay after three years of work, which is an increase of 40.81 percent compared with their pay after graduation.

The average price for the second-hand homes in the valley is less than 20,000 yuan per square meter. And college graduates choosing to work and buy houses in the valley need to work an average of 2.39 months to buy 1 sq m of a house. This is less than the time needed in the top 10 cities in China with the highest salaries among college graduates.
