With a total output value of about 1.12 billion yuan annually, there are 41 life and health related enterprises in town, including 17 industrial enterprises above a designated size – those with annual turnover of 20 million yuan or more – in Huangshan city. There are 31 types of traditional Chinese medicinal plants under cultivation – including chrysanthemums – with a 158,900-mu (10,593 hectares) planting area and a total output of 25,000 metric tons each year. The sector works closely with premier high-tech enterprises like AstraZeneca, Philips and Shanghai ZhenGe Biotech Co Ltd.

Huangshan plans to attract more high-quality enterprises that focus on stem cells, medical equipment, Chinese herbal medicine planting and processing and health tourism.
