The First Jinan Poetry Carnival took place on Sept 9 as a highlight of the 11th International Spring Culture Festival, with renowned poets, experts and artists in attendance.

Based on the theme of springs and poems, the carnival includes exhibitions of Chinese calligraphy, painting, rare stones, and silver carvings of lotuses.

Various performances such as a poetry recital mixed with a hanfu (traditional Chinese attire) show, and some Peking opera were staged to display Jinan's prosperous history and culture.

An eight-person poetry recital group whose members ranged from 60 to 75 years old performed a recital of Baotu Spring. For over a decade, this group has found joy in poetry, particularly those works that celebrate springs and water.

"We are delighted to be part of this event. It is a festival for us poetry enthusiasts, and in the future, we will contribute our efforts to helping establish a 'poetry city'," said one of the group's members.

This year's International Spring Culture Festival features 34 activities, more than any previous edition.
