Guiyang working to improve eco construction

Aug 15 marked the first National Ecology Day, when Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, held an exhibition of ecological civilization achievements in Guanshanhu Park.

"This event means a lot. We're walking around the park as it's being held," said a local named Fu Qiang. "My children showed great interest in the flowers and animals, and we can take this opportunity to teach them how to care for the environment," he added.

"The environment of Guiyang seems healthy with its blue sky, green land and clear water," Said Li Ling, a tourist from Chengdu, Sichuan province. This is her first time to Guiyang.

Guiyang has achieved remarkable results in ecological protection. The city is home to 1,025 parks and has created a number of tourism-ecology integration projects, such as the Taoyuan River outdoor sports base.

For phosphorus chemical, aluminum and aluminum processing and other traditional industries with high energy consumption and emissions, Guiyang has focused on promoting circular transformation and low-carbon emissions transformation. In 2022, the comprehensive utilization rate of phosphogypsum was 86.6 percent and the comprehensive utilization rate of straw was 88.94 percent.

In recent years, Guiyang has also been working to develop its digital industry, electronic information manufacturing and other low-energy, low-emission, high-value-added industries.

Guiyang has also promoted its underforest economy. A total of 1.39 million mu (92,507 hectares) of underforest is currently being used productively in Guiyang and Guian New Area, with an output value of 6.69 billion yuan ($915.01 million).

Guiyang plans to continue pursuing ecological civilization.
