Quzhou in Zhejiang province won the Dayu Award for its excellent work in preserving water resources, local media reported on Aug 8.

This is the ninth year in a row that Quzhou has won the Dayu Award, indicating that the city's water treatment work has continued to be excellent.

The annual presentation of the Dayu Award was initiated by the Zhejiang authorities in 2015, with prize winners determined according to their performance in treating sewage, preventing flooding, draining flooded land, maintaining the water supply, and saving water over the previous year.

The Dayu Award is named after Dayu, also known as Yu the Great, a legendary ancient Chinese ruler known for taming the flooding of the Yellow River around 4,000 years ago.

In 2022, Quzhou's water quality ranked 16th among 339 prefecture-level cities in China. In the first half of this year, the city's water quality ranked among the top 18 in China.
