Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province released a three-year action plan to advance the high-quality development of its fishing industry on Aug 3.

The plan is aimed at solving problems such as shrinking land breeding space, extensive breeding models and the slow development of deep-sea and far-sea fishing, and will be implemented on Sept 3.

Authorities unveiled their goals for the fishing sector in the plan, with the output of the city's fishing industry reaching 335,000 metric tons by 2025.

To achieve this, Zhoushan will coordinate the layout of fishing space in the city's waters and shoals and establish a fish breeding and seedling center to nurture new varieties.

Authorities will also explore new breeding models, including developing recirculating aquaculture systems and attracting major projects related to breeding platforms.

The local government will channel more resources into brand building and the promotion of Zhoushan's signature seafood products such as yellow croakers, mussels and swimming crabs.

In addition, authorities will establish a technical service team and launch high-tech projects to provide support to the city's fishing sector.
