Shanghai's Chongming district unveiled a blueprint for high-quality development during a news conference on July 28.

According to the blueprint, local authorities will build a carbon neutrality demonstration zone which features a comprehensive management of ecological product total value (GEP) and refined carbon emissions, officials announced.

A master plan for the construction of the demonstration zone was unveiled by district authorities at the end of last year. According to the plan, the island is looking to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Miao noted that new energy public buses and taxis have been introduced throughout the district in recent years. The district is also where the country's first new energy passenger ferry was launched. Presently, clean energy accounts for 31 percent of all energy consumed in the district.

In addition, the district's recycling rate for household waste current stands at 42.2 percent.

During the conference, authorities pointed out that the district's agricultural industry has seen significant developments in recent times. For example, efforts have been made to unify production standards, regional branding, and sales standards, to ensure more stable supply and higher quality produce, said Li Jun, the head of the district.

The district is also currently focusing on creating a 100-billion-yuan industrial cluster for high-end shipbuilding and marine engineering manufacturing.
