China held its first forum on mangrove conservation on Wednesday, highlighting the country's commitment to protect and restore its mangrove forests.

The forum in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, marked the launch of the International Mangrove Conservation Fund, which aims to promote international cooperation, scientific research, and restoration projects related to mangroves.

Representatives from 29 countries and international organizations took part.

China's measures have resulted in significant progress on mangrove conservation. Mangrove coverage has increased by 7,200 hectares since the beginning of the century, reversing the previous decline. China is now among the few countries in the world where mangrove coverage is increasing, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
