Beijing Capital International Airport has resumed global routes with more than 70 international destinations during the summer season and the number of international routes is expected to continue to grow, according to the airport.

Since China upgraded the new COVID-19 management measures in January, more international routes have resumed such as Beijing with Sapporo, Munich, Edinburgh, Dublin and Phuket, said Yu Jiangning, operation duty manager of the airport's Operations Control Center.

During the May Day holiday, the airport resumed international routes with 55 global destinations, according to an earlier interview with the airport.

Yu also noted that the number of international passengers with popular destinations—such as Phuket, Chiang Mai, Budapest, Johannesburg and Fukuoka—increased when the airport entered the summer season.

The 2023 summer season started from July 1 and will end on August 31. During this time, about 70,000 flights carrying 10.44 million passenger trips are expected to be handled at the airport. From July 1 to July 20, the airport handled 22,000 flights at an average of 1,111 flights every day. A total of 3.27 million passenger trips were transported during that time with an average of 163,000 trips every day.
