3 years on: Hainan's duty-free sales exceed 130b yuan

From July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023, Haikou Customs has supervised over 130.7 billion yuan ($18.2 billion) in duty-free sales, with 17.67 million consumers and 175 million products sold.

Compared to the July 2017- June 2020 period, Sanya's shopping volume, consumer throughput, and number of sold commodities increased by 279 percent, 92.6 percent, and 272 percent, respectively.

On July 1, 2020, the province increased the annual per capita tax-free shopping limit from 30,000 yuan to 100,000 yuan.

The duty-free goods categories have also been expanded from 38 to 45, with electronic products, such as mobile phones and laptops added to the duty-free list.

In the past three years, the number of duty-free shops in Hainan has increased to 12, realizing the full coverage of three of Hainan's transportation networks, namely, airplanes, ships and trains.
