The Yangtze River Delta Marine Biomedicine Innovation Center was launched in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on July 6.

The center will function as a one-stop public technical service platform focused on key technology research and development, providing services for industry innovation, the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, and the cultivation and attracting of professional talents.

He Zhongwei, Party secretary of Zhoushan, said at the launch ceremony that marine biomedicine is a strategic emerging industry in Zhoushan and the city has established a complete marine biomedical industrial chain that covers raw material production, bulk trading, refined processing, and research and development.

He expressed hope that entrepreneurs will make more investments in the city, and added that the local government will make concerted efforts to create an environment conducive for the innovation and development of the marine biomedical industry.

Zhu Beiwei, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that the center will be focused on top-level design, market-oriented strategy, and in-depth integration of industries, universities, research institutes and financial institutions, and will be vital to the sustainable development of the Yangtze River Delta region's marine economy.

The center has established a pilot test base with a 3,400-square-meter pilot test workshop, a 3,000-square-meter lab and a 1,000-square-meter raw material production workshop, and will provide pilot test services in functional foods, biological products, cosmetic products and traditional Chinese medicines, according to authorities.
