The International Symposium on Mushroom Breeding & Industrial Promotion was held in Changshan county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, from July 3 to 5.

The event was attended by hundreds of experts, merchants, and industry insiders from around the world. There were keynote speeches on the edible mushroom industry, industry forums, and exhibitions of deep-processed mushroom products.

China is the world's largest producer of edible mushrooms in terms of output, variety, area, and number of employees. According to official statistics, the country's total output of edible mushrooms reached 35.96 million metric tons with a total value of 271.47 billion yuan ($37.45 billion) in 2022.

Changshan county is known as the hometown of edible mushrooms and has a rich history in the production of edible mushrooms.

In recent years, the Changshan government has attached great importance to the development of the edible mushroom industry, deepened the processing chain, carried out product research and development, and promoted the industrialization of edible mushrooms.

The county's edible mushroom cultivation capacity has exceeded 20 million rods with more than 6,000 tons valued at 100 million yuan in output.

"The edible mushroom industry is not only an important agricultural industry, but also promotes comprehensive rural vitalization and increases farmers' incomes," said Yang Xingliang, deputy director of the Changshan agriculture and rural affairs bureau.
