A Hong Kong youth delegation of 45 school students based in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region visited the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, on July 4.

"All I heard were two 'chua' sounds, and then a beautiful bookmark was done by laser," said a Hong Kong girl Huang Ritong, after experiencing how fast laser can be in making a customized bookmark.

Huang, a freshman studying at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said that the opportunity to visit OVC is rewarding, making the abstract concept of "sci-tech innovation" rectified.

At the Wuhan New City Exhibition Hall, the delegation members held a meeting on the integrated cultural development between the valley and Hong Kong.

The visit aimed to cultivate the national identity among the new generation of young Hong Kong people, according to Su Zhiqi, leader of the delegation. Su expressed the hope that Hong Kong students can connect their careers with their homeland's development.
