Hohhot, the capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has vigorously promoted national and local ecological construction projects and has boosted its environmental protection while maintaining high-quality development.

In 2022, Hohhot experienced 329 days with good air quality. The improvement of the water environment quality of the surface water assessment section ranked Hohhot second overall in the country. Hohhot insists on integrating responsibility for green environmental protection into all economic and social development stages.

For instance, the burning of coal is prohibited in areas with severe air pollution, and the use of clean energy for heating has been fully realized with the support of the local government.

Urban surface water, groundwater, and water discharged into the Yellow River are monitored to ensure the discharges are free of pollution. At the same time, the city comprehensively supervises and treats rural pollution and waste disposal.

Meanwhile, a large-scale land afforestation project has helped to restore and transform the ecological environment in Hohhot.
