The Qixing River National Nature Reserve is situated in the heart of the Sanjiang Plain in Heilongjiang province, covering a total area of 20,000 hectares. In 2011, it was designated as a Wetland of International Importance (Ramsar Site), recognizing its significance on a global scale.
Located along the East Asia-Australasia flyway, the reserve is a vital pathway for international bird migration. In recent years, the population of the greater white-fronted goose has surged from less than 50,000 to an astounding 150,000, while other bird species such as the Eurasian spoonbill, whooper swan, and red-crowned crane have also shown a noticeable increase in numbers.
