Xinwu district, also known as Wuxi New District (WND), in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, was recently recognized as a model district for reading promotion.

WND has in recent years made significant efforts to promote reading through the development of reading facilities and the organization of reading activities.

The district has built a comprehensive library system that includes a main library, several branch libraries, community libraries, and 24-hour book stations. There are presently 128 reading venues and facilities in the district.

One standout feature is the Zhong Reading Yards, which are located in areas such as ancient blocks and parks. These spaces have a variety of themes, including coffee, cultural tourism and popular science.

WND also hosts events to promote reading, including book recommendation sessions, dictation contests, and recitation competitions. The district's publicity department and other organizations have also invited notable figures such as Fan Deng to speak to young people about the importance of reading.

There are 35 organizations in WND dedicated to promoting reading, including several recognized as provincial-level ones for their efforts. The district also has nearly 1,600 registered library volunteers.
