The intelligent spinnery built by Nantong-based Dasheng Group reached its target output on March 9, local media reported.

The spinnery is the first of its kind in China, and Dong Kuiyong, chairman of the China Cotton Textile Association, believes that the facility serves as a good example for the further development of China's intelligent textile industry.

As a traditional labor-extensive industry, the textile industry has always required a large number of workers.

Chen Jian, vice-general manager of Dasheng Group, said that about 600 workers used to be required to produce 10,000 ingots of cotton yarn, while today, at the intelligent spinnery, less than 10 workers can produce the same volume.

According to Chen, the intelligent factory was put into operation at the end of last year, reducing the number of workers by more than 30 percent and the rate of defective products by over 15 percent and improving production efficiency by more than 20 percent.

With just 10 inspectors, the factory is now full of machines running at full speed with driverless logistics vehicles running between them.

Thanks to the upgraded factory, the Dasheng Group has also expanded its product range from a single gray fabric to dyeing cloth, knitted fabric, and colored spun yarns and formed cooperative relations with Fortune Global 500 enterprises.
