The musical Mazu greeted audiences at Hongxiannyu Grand Theater in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, on April 8. Based on the folklore of the Mazu Sea Goddess, the production pays tribute to her noble qualities of helpfulness and kindness.
A goddess of the sea in Chinese culture, Mazu is at the center of beliefs and customs throughout the country’s coastal areas.
