Japanese Ebara Environmental Plant, one of the world's top 500 manufacturing companies, started constructing its China headquarters Ebara Environmental Plant (China) in Qingdao on March 21 with a total investment of $120 million and a registered capital of $37 million.

The project covers 112 mu (7.47 hectares) in the Sino-German Ecopark, which is located in the Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone in the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, or Qingdao FTZ.

The company will operate as the China headquarters of the Ebara Environmental Plant, Ebara Group's subsidiary, in the environmental engineering business segment. It is expected to achieve an output value of 440 million yuan ($64.51 million) per year and employ about 520 people.

Based on the concept of "improving water, air and the environment and building a sustainable society", the company plans to mainly engage in the design, production, construction, maintenance and management of garbage, industrial waste and sludge incineration power generation facilities and equipment ranging from waste treatment to power generation.

The project is intended to serve as an environmental protection equipment production base and operate the production and manufacturing of energy-saving and environmental-protection boiler equipment and waste incineration boiler equipment.

Ebara Environmental Plant and Qingdao FTZ signed an investment cooperation agreement in November, 2021 to set up the project, and the Ebara Environmental Plant (China) completed its business registration in the Sino-German Ecopark the same month.

"After years of preparation, we finally chose to establish the project here as there are complete infrastructure facilities, convenient transportation and efficient services," said Masayuki Kai, director of Ebara Environmental Plant and chairman of Ebara Environmental Plant (China).

He thanked the local government for providing them with strong support and assistance in the project's land use, approval and other aspects, which only took eight working days from land bidding to obtaining construction permits.

Wang Li, deputy director of Qingdao FTZ's administrative committee and executive deputy director of the Administrative Committee of Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone, said: "The Ebara Environmental Plant chose Qingdao FTZ's International Economic Cooperation Zone as its headquarters in China, which fully reflected its support and trust in Qingdao FTZ. We will continue to support business development, provide quality services for project construction, and strive to create a first-class environment conducive to project construction."
