The sub-center of the World Meteorological Centre Beijing (WMC Beijing) is set to make its debut this year in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The project is now in its final stage of completion, with construction expected to finish in May and operations to begin in September. The sub-center will provide meteorological forecasting and technical exchange services for countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road.

Located in China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC), the project covers an area of 42,000 square meters, comprising a research building and an outdoor meteorological intelligent equipment observation field.

Once completed, it will become the world's first World Meteorological Center sub-center, a Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) meteorological academic exchange center, a world-class carbon neutral research institute, and an internationally advanced meteorological talent training base.

The sub-center is expected to provide support for meteorological disaster prevention in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It will also act as a meteorological safeguard for international ocean shipping. The construction of this carbon-neutral research institute will contribute to the acceleration of Guangzhou's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

The main building of the project is divided into business, research, communication, and exhibition areas. Floors 1 to 5 house business, exhibition, innovation experiments, and achievement transformation zones, while floors 6-8 are designated for academic exchanges and business.

The project also includes two major research institutions: a meteorological monitoring, early warning, and forecasting center, and a meteorological technology integration and innovation platform.
