The East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC) held a meeting on regional urban construction and management on March 14, summarizing the work in 2022 and making arrangements for this year.

Last year, OVC's infrastructure investment exceeded 30 billion yuan ($4.36 billion), and the output value of its construction industry exceeded 100 billion yuan for the first time. A number of infrastructure projects, such as 40 kilometers of municipal roads, 6.3 km of comprehensive pipe lines, five public parking lots, and 18 power charging stations were also built to improve living standards.

This year, OVC will focus on the construction of Wuhan New City and the improvement of urban quality by strengthening infrastructure construction. It plans to arrange 464 projects with a total investment of 225.4 billion yuan. Among the projects, 85 percent will be located within Wuhan New City.

OVC plans to build a 50-km backbone road network, complete the construction on eight primary and middle schools, and add 11,500 parking spaces and 23 power charging stations. It will also accelerate the construction of more than 10 large hospitals and community health service centers, as well as four cultural and sports projects.

In addition, more pocket parks, flower fields and cultural blocks will be built to further improve the local living environment.
