Guilin High-tech Industrial Development Zone, or Guilin High-tech Zone, was established with the approval of the State Council in 1991. It connects China's pan-Pearl River Delta, southwestern region and ASEAN countries and is an important junction along the Belt and Road Initiative, linking Guizhou, Guangdong, Hunan provinces with the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The zone is regarded as an economic hub connecting southwestern China and the eastern coastal areas of the country.

Guilin High-tech Zone with three parks — Qixing, Xiangshan and Yanshan — covers a total area of 481 square kilometers. It has implemented the management system of “one zone with three parks, unified planning, separated park managements and innovative services”. After its development over 30 years, Guilin High-tech Zone has become a major powerhouse of science and technology innovation and industrial upgrading. In the latest rankings of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Guilin High-tech Zone has risen to the 65th place in terms of comprehensive strength among all the national high-tech zones in China.
