Wuxi makes progress in digital economy

Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has made significant progress in the development of its digital economy over the past year, local media reported on Feb 19.

More than 24 billion yuan ($3.49 billion) has been invested into 100 digital projects in Wuxi, and 11 provincial-level intelligent factories and 68 intelligent workshops were established in the city last year.

The operating revenue of enterprises above designated size in Wuxi's core digital industries increased 6.2 percent year-on-year, the operating revenue of its internet of vehicle industry expanded by 45 percent from the previous year, and its internet of things industry was listed as a national advanced manufacturing industrial cluster.

The Wuxi factory of Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, was named a world-class advanced lighthouse factory by the World Economic Forum.

Digital management has helped Schneider improve its on-time delivery rate by 30 percent and save 52 percent in storage space, according to Cui Hairong, vice-president of supply chain planning at Schneider Electric China.

In addition, digitalization has improved quality of life, administrative services and urban management in Wuxi.

Liqiao residential community, for example, has improved its elderly care services with an intelligent buffet restaurant and remote medical consultation, 98.3 percent of administrative affairs in the city can now be dealt with online, and a sharing service platform for low-altitude patrol has been built to support city management.
