East China’s Zhejiang province is aiming to make significant strides in the development of its culture and tourism sectors, according to a five-year development plan recently released by the provincial government.

According to the plan, authorities are aiming to increase the added value of the province's culture and tourism sectors to 13 percent its GDP by 2027. The estimated investment in cultural and tourism projects is expected to exceed 1.2 trillion yuan ($184 billion).

The plan also states that two world-class tourism scenic spots and two world-class resorts will be built in the province by 2027. In addition, three cities will be developed into State-level tourism and leisure cities and 12 blocks will be transformed into those with distinctive cultural features.

According to Chen Guangsheng, Party secretary of the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, the plan will bolster Zhejiang’s efforts to become a world-renowned cultural tourism destination.

During a conference on Feb 14, provincial governor Wang Hao emphasized the importance of creating a "Zhejiang Model" for the integrated development of culture and tourism.

To achieve this goal, he outlined three key tasks, including developing cultural and tourism industries with Zhejiang characteristics and exploring new approaches to deepen integration between these industries.
