From February 2 to October 20, visitors in Chengdu will have a unique opportunity to explore the beauty of A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains. An exhibition featuring stunning visual effects and digital animations that bring the painting to life can be found at Exit C of Dongda Road Station on Chengdu Metro Line 2.
Since its creation in 1113, A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains has been held up as a masterpiece of traditional Chinese painting. The painting is the only extant work by the Northern Song (960-1127) painter Wang Ximeng who created it at the age of eighteen. It is stunning in its sweeping scale, rich coloration, and the expressive minute details.
At the metro station, a breathtaking display of the masterpiece is presented in a long digital scroll with five enchanting scenes that change dynamically, from dawn to moonlit night, showcasing the beauty of the landscape. The painting captivates the audience and takes them on an immersive journey into the artistic world. It is a mesmerizing experience that adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to their daily commute.
Visitors can learn stories behind the painting and fly a kite in the scenery, evoking the sensations of exploring the idyllic landscape and indulging in the delights of oriental aesthetics. There is also an interactive installation available, where the public can paint and create their own version of the landscape. Afterward, they can scan a QR code to reserve a copy of their works for themselves to keep as a souvenir.
