The unveiling ceremony for a post-pandemic restoration project in Nepal, supported by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDSSCF), was held in Lalitpur in Kathmandy Valley on Dec 16, 2022. The Nepal offices of the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly hosted the event.

In his speech, Xie Yu, economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, urged the CFRD Nepal office to continue implementing the Global Development Initiative and to carry out close cooperation with the UNDP Nepal office. He also stressed the importance of successfully executing the new project, reaching those most in need, making sure that students in the 25 recipient schools feel the care and love from the Chinese people, and accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals in Nepal.

The UNDP Assistant Resident Representative in Nepal Vijaya Singh reiterated that the UNDP's role is to unite all partners, stating that "we have already started the discussion on how to make joint endeavors".

Prakash Panth, chairperson of the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of Nepal, acknowledged China's generous assistance to Nepal during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that the project will help in post-pandemic community development and the economic recovery in Nepal, and he wished for the smooth implementation of the project.

The project is one of the latest in Nepal supported by the GDSSCF, which was upgraded by the Chinese government from the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund in June 2022. The goal of the project is to promote the post-pandemic recovery of schools and communities in remote areas of Nepal by providing them with supplies for sanitation, epidemic prevention, and environmental protection as well as daily necessities.

Prior to this project, the CFRD successfully carried out a food donation project to local children in Nepal via the GDSSCF.
