Market research firm CCID Consulting recently released the top 10 most advanced display cities in China. Wuhan in Central China's Hubei province ranked fourth, after Guangzhou, Hefei, and Shenzhen. In the 2022 top five flexible display city ranking, Wuhan ranked second after Chengdu.

The ranking was based on three primary indicators – competency of industries, supporting facilities, and regions, as well as 19 secondary indexes, including cumulative investment, industry growth rate, strength of industrial chains, and logistics.

The East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC) is a major driver of Wuhan's advanced display industry. Since 2008, the valley has laid out six display panel production lines for hard and flexible displays and has gathered more than 50 advanced display industry leaders. It also boasts a fully-formed industrial chain covering raw materials, equipment, display panels, modules and end products, making it the nation's largest small and medium-sized display panel R&D and production base.

On Nov 9, OVC issued the advanced display industry development guidelines, setting a goal to increase the output of the valley's core advanced display industry to 50 billion yuan ($7.1 billion) by 2025.
