China CDC experts invited for online interview on radiation protection

On the occasion of the 127th anniversary of Roentgen's discovery of X-rays, the official website of the National Health Commission carried out an online interview with the theme of "Learning about radiological health, advancing Healthy China initiative", on Nov 8, 2022.

Su Xu, chief expert of radiation protection at the China CDC, Sun Quanfu, director of the National Institute of Radiological Protection of the China CDC, and Cheng Jinsheng, director of the Radiological Diagnosis and Treatment Safety and Protection Research Office at the National Institute of Radiological Protection of the China CDC, were invited to introduce the country's achievements in radiological health work, share basic knowledge about radiological health, and address some related hot issues during the interview.

Su explained the concept of radiological health, its relationship with people's health and life, and introduced the differences between radiation and ionizing radiation, the application status of nuclear and radiation technology in China, and the measures taken for radiation hazard control and radiation protection.

Sun introduced the achievements made in the country's radiological health work, and spoke on hot issues such as what radon is, how it can be harmful, how to protect against it, and how to protect the occupational health of miners in an environment with high radon exposure.

Cheng talked about the application of nuclear radiation technology in medicine, and how clients and patients should protect themselves in physical examinations and in radiological diagnosis and treatment.
