The 4th World Science and Technology Development Forum will run from Nov 26 to 28 in Chengdu, Sichuan province, according to the China Association for Science and Technology.

Themed "Openness, Trust and Cooperation", this year's event will feature 16 subforums, with topics including digital economies, food security, climate change, medicine, talent training and sustainable development.

Liu Xingping, deputy director of the Department of Sci-tech Innovation at the China Association for Science and Technology, said the event represents China's commitment to international cooperation and to jointly tackling global challenges with the international scientific community.

More than 300 high level participants are expected to attend, including Nobel laureates, Turing award winners and representatives from international science organizations and corporations, Liu said. The event will be jointly hosted by CAST, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Sichuan provincial government.

The forum will also invite renowned scientists in basic research, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, geography and astronomy to discuss how basic sciences can serve the United Nations' sustainable development goals.

Zhang Tao, deputy secretary general of the Chengdu municipal government, said it will be the first time the forum held outside of Beijing, which speaks volumes to the city's recognition as a science and technology hub.

Apart from academic exchanges, the forum will encourage interactions between scientists and the general public, promote scientific knowledge and showcase Chengdu's unique research advantages and resources to the world, he added.
