Liangxi, an old district in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, has been seeking resurgence over the past few years.

The district boasts a large population and convenient transportation, and is also the hub of Wuxi's profound culture and commerce; however, it currently is faced with limited space for development.

To break the deadlock, Liangxi has upgraded its development strategy to seek revival from urban functions, the transport system, and history and culture.

"I've always had an affection for old Liangxi as I've lived here since I was a child," said retired Li Nan. "The district now is more livable than before."

Unsatisfied with the living environment in Liangxi, Li moved out of the district, but as the old district became more beautiful and livable, Li decided to return to Liangxi not long ago.

Meanwhile, Liangxi has ramped up efforts to develop low-carbon and modern industries with cross-border e-commerce, a headquarters economy, and a digital economy thriving in the district.

Home to a large number of tourist attractions such as Qingmingqiao Historic and Culture Block and ancestral halls in ancient Huishan town, Liangxi has always been an attractive draw for visitors to Wuxi.

The district in recent years has rolled out bazaars, anime shows, and electronic sports games to make itself more appealing to younger generations.

"I like rambling on the ancient Nanchang Street," said a university student surnamed Lyu. "I feel like I'm walking in history, but the fancy toys in the shopwindow bring me back to reality."

Currently, Liangxi is promoting the protection and development of the Grand Canal and reproducing local history and culture with historical buildings.
