A cultural exchange activity on international food — called the Assembly of International Delicious Cuisine — was launched on Tuesday in the capital, attracting entrepreneurs in the food industry.

It's part of wider event, Beijing Consumption Season.

Well-known traditional Chinese dishes were cooked and displayed at the activity. In the future, such cultural exchanges will continue to be organized, with the promotion of cuisine brands and hosting of more food fairs.

Last year, the Beijing municipal government proposed that the city should strive to build itself into an internationally influential and competitive food hub by the year 2025. Since July this year, the city has implemented policies such as distributing coupons in the food industry to boost consumption.

"The food industry is playing a leading role in promoting growth in consumption," said Yun Cheng, chairman of Beijing Cuisine Association, noting that Beijing's food industry will contribute to building the city into an international consumption center and gastronomic city by deeply exploring Beijing local dishes.
